Southern Colorado woman celebrates 101st birthday
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A southern Colorado woman is celebrating her 101st birthday this weekend.
Jeanne Summers lives in a senior community in Colorado Springs. When we asked her what it feels like to turn 101, she said it’s not that big of a deal to her.
“I plan to have many more. My mother lived to be 104. I certainly will make that,” Summers said.
When sitting down with 11 News Reporter Melissa Henry, Summers talked about her many jobs over the years. She has a masters degree and worked as a librarian. She got emotional when talking about her stint as a newspaper writer during wartime, when she wrote biographies of fallen soldiers. She also worked in a production line making shell casings for war. Although, she said her favorite job was being a flight attendant for many years.
“The cards are coming in from my friends for my birthday,” Summers said. “I must have a thousand friends, more or less a few.”
Summers says her friends and 5 grand-kids are her greatest joys. She says, she’s always been active, and regularly exercises in chair Zumba classes.
Her community is having a birthday dinner for her. She will also celebrate her birthday on Saturday, Feb. 26 with a photo shoot in front of an airplane to commemorate her flight attendant career.
