COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The City of Colorado Springs is putting up more safety measures for a trail in Colorado Springs. Due to safety concerns, a section of Sinton Trail will be closed. Crews will be putting in chain link fences to prevent access to this trail.

According to city officials, the area between Holland Park Boulevard and just east of Amstel Drive has been closed since January after a heavy storm caused a major washout on the north embankment of Douglas Creek.

Since the closure, crews found a part of the creek and embankment needs to be reconstructed for a more sustainable water channel. Crews will reportedly begin the second phase of work on this section.

This work will begin June 28 through mid-August and will be fully closed between Holland Park Boulevard and Chestnut Street. This will allow crews to do creek maintenance and help prevent further damage to the creek and trail.

Trail users will be detoured onto Vondelpark Drive. A map of the closure can be found at the top of this article.
