City of Fountain bans fireworks ahead of 4th of July celebrations
FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KKTV) - Effective June 10th, the City of Fountain is banning the sale, possession, and use of fireworks. This comes after similar policies were announced for both El Paso County and the City of Colorado Springs.
Fountain officials cite forecasts from the National Weather Service indicating very dry weather throughout the month as their reason for implementing the ban. Because of the dry weather, fireworks pose a risk of damaging fires.
Fountain Fire Chief James Maxon says, “It is unfortunate that we have to ban fireworks, however, the conditions are just too unsafe to allow them right now. Implementing a fireworks ban is done in the best interest of all our residents, and I’m confident our community will continue to support their first responders’ efforts to keep everyone safe.”
Fountain Fire and Police Departments will be on elevated watch levels, with an increased presence in neighborhoods, to enforce the fireworks ban. Those who violate the City ordinance may face a fine.
