ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office continues to work case following a major recovery of stolen items.

The investigation started in the fall of 2020. On Dec. 31, a search warrant executed by multiple law enforcement agencies resulted in the recovery of at least two dozen vehicles, a large gun safe, and more than $100,000 worth of what suspected stolen tools and equipment.

The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office didn’t provide much insight as to how investigators found the stolen property or where they found the items. However, authorities believe a majority of the items were stolen in Colorado. Illegal weapons were also recovered.

“One of our victims was ecstatic that we have recovered his totally restored show car and trailer,” Undersheriff Dave Fisher for Elbert County wrote in a release. “ECSO Investigators have been working diligently with other law enforcement agencies to contact owners of recovered property and this will be ongoing for several weeks, if not months.”

A person of interest has been identified in the case. That person’s identity was not released to the public.

The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office is asking the general public to not call in asking about specific equipment. Among the stolen vehicles were cars, trucks, trailers, ATV’s, a Polaris RZR, and several snowmobiles.

The investigation is ongoing.
