Colorado Springs Police performs live-fire calibration test
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The Colorado Springs Police Department conducted a live-fire calibration to test their gunshot detection system.
This took place from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. near the Valley Hi, Park Hill, and Pikes Peak Park neighborhoods. Police said residents could hear gunshots during that time.
The tests consisted of a sequence of gunshots followed by a validation of sound detection by the system. Real bullets were not used; rather, the department used frangible bullets and bullet traps. Those bullets disintegrate into dust when they hit the target.
Police assure citizens there is no danger to the public when doing these tests.
