Nathan MacKinnon has been a big part of keeping the Avalanche at the top of the west this season, now he has been named a finalist for the Ted Lindsay Award- given to the most outstanding player in the NHL.
The National Hockey League Players’ Association announced Tuesday the three finalists for the 2019-20 Ted Lindsay Award. The finalists include forwards Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers, Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche and Artemi Panarin of the New York Rangers.
This is the 2nd career nomination for MacKinnon but he looks to join Joe Sakic as only the 2nd Avalanche player to win the TLA. MacKinnon’s 93 points before the season pause ranks 5th in the league, 43 points ahead of his closest Colorado teammate.
“We’re spoiled, we see him everyday but obviously the impact he has for our team, we consider him to be the MVP. You look at some of the injuries we had throughout the course of the season and we didn’t miss a beat. That was because of players like Mac leading the charge and elevating their game when we needed him most. That’s what an MVP does.” said Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar.
This years winner will be announced during the NHL conference finals.
