It's a great time to remind your kids to wash their hands because there's a nasty virus going around.

In the areas of Fountain and Security... Nurse Practitioner Virginia Quiroz has started to see more school-aged kids with viral tonsillitis.

This is very contagious, especially through direct contact. Symptoms include a fever of up to 103, enlarged tonsils, fatigue and body aches.

Because this is viral, antibiotics won't work. So treatment includes Tylenol or Motrin, lots of fluids, rest and gargling with salt water. The fever can last for 3 or 4 days. Other symptoms can last up to 10 days.
