In the Briargate Area, Dr. Michael Halenkamp with the Pediatric Division of Colorado Springs Health Partners says he's seeing more sore throats in kids.
Sore throats can be caused by a virus or bacteria. That can affect how you treat it. Only bacteria should be treated with antibiotics. But either way, pain medicine will help. Also, give your child soft foods and, if possible, have them gargle with salt water.
But definitely see your doctor if the sore throat causes your child to have difficulty breathing or if they act very sick.
Also going around this week... colds in the Palmer Park area.
Dr. Joyce Michael with the Mountain View Medical Group says she's seeing a growing number of adults and kids with cold symptoms.
She says the symptoms include runny nose, sneezing, cough and fatigue. But a cold can last up to 14 days. So you'll want to treat the symptoms with over the counter medication.
Also, don't forget -- good hand-washing is a must to keep cold germs from spreading.
