Dr. Michael W. Halenkamp with the Pediatric Division of Colorado Springs Health Partners reports seeing several cases of Herpangina in kids. It stems from the herpes family.

Symptoms include an outbreak of cold sores in the back of the throat. Sometimes the gums get inflamed as well. And kids will likely have a very sore throat. That can lead to a high risk of dehydration, because kids don't want to drink anything. Cold drinks and a bland diet can help.

The outbreak usually lasts several days to a week. Herpangina is very contagious and is considered a common childhood illness.

Also this week, Dr. Tom Bartlett with Mountain View Medical Group is seeing a resurgeance of gastroenteritis in adults.

Symptoms include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated and take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for abdominal pain.

Gastroenterities can last about 24 to 48 hours.
