BRIARGATE - Viral Illness

Dr. Michael Halenkamp with Colorado Springs Health Partners reports several cases of viral illness.

Fortunately, they appear to be mild.

The main symptom is sore throat.

Strep tests have come back negative. That means, there are no antibiotic cures available.

Instead, keep up the fluids and pain medication.

Also, watch for increasing pain, breathing or drinking difficulties.

Dr. Bridget Tewes with CSHP says, lots of kids are coming in with conjunctivitis, commonly known as pink eye.

Symptoms include redness in the white of the eye, swelling of the eyelids, itching or burning eyes, tearing and a discharge from the eyes.

Pink Eye usually last a week or so.

It is very contagious, so wash your hands frequently and thoroughly before and after touching your eyes.

And use warm or cool compresses, whichever feels better, to help relieve the swelling and redness.

Your doctor can also prescribe a medication.
