Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) crews are prepared for the upcoming snow storm. Below is is an update for the various areas of the state.
Denver: Crews are not yet on snow shift as CDOT does not pre-treat highways in advance of a storm. According to the current forecast, rain will change over to snow in the Denver metro area around 12:30-1 a.m. Road temperatures are expected to stay above freezing for much of the storm. As a result, CDOT will go on partial snow shift at midnight with approximately 30 plows. At 5 a.m., we will go on full snow shift with 75 plows. Crews will then remain on snow shift, 12-hour shifts, until the roads are clear of snow and ice. Crews will be applying both solid and liquid de-icer as needed.
Front Range/Eastern Plains: Much like the Denver metro area, the remainder of the Front Range and eastern plains is expecting to see snow in the early morning hours. Most areas are going on snow shift at 5 a.m. tomorrow with some areas of the eastern plains starting at 8 a.m. In north/northeast Colorado, there will be approximately 100 snow plows working during the storm. In south/southeast Colorado including Castle Rock and Monument, there will be approximately 160 snow plows. Crews will be applying both solid and liquid de-icer as needed.
I-70 Corridor and Foothills: Crews are currently on snow shift with about 30 plows on the I-70 corridor between C-470 and Vail Pass and are applying both solid and liquid de-icer as needed.
High winds and poor visibility are possible tomorrow and motorists are strongly encouraged to call 511 or visit www.cotrip.org for current road condition information.
