The biggest concern for this afternoon/evening will be frigid temperatures. Highs will only max in the teens and 20s with breezy conditions and wind chills in the single digits. Throughout the afternoon, a few light snow showers are possible. Any accumulations should stay under 1" and is not a big concern. Additional snow is possible this weekend...head over to the "Weather" tab for more information.
With cold temperatures and snow moving in, El Paso County officials are opening up an emergency shelter for those in need.
The First Baptist Church has opened on 10915 Black Forest Road for those who have been affected by fire and floods.
The shelter will open at 4 p.m. and close the following morning at 8 every day this week until Saturday morning.
Pets are not allowed inside, although officials are working towards alternate solutions.
There will be snacks, drinks, cots and blankets. The Salvation Army will also be serving dinner and breakfast daily.
There are also warming shelters throughout Colorado Springs:
The Springs Rescue Mission for Adults on West Las Vegas Street.
If that shelter gets full they will open the Salvation Army Montgomery Center on Sierra Madre and Lighthouse Mobile Ministries on South Circle.
