Revamped Tornado Warnings Aim To Scare

The National Weather Service is kicking off an experiment next week with a new kind of tornado warning that's aimed to scare people into seeking shelter.

Weather service officials say studies after deadly tornadoes in Joplin, Mo., and Tuscaloosa, Ala., last year found that most people didn't heed the initial warnings about the oncoming storms.

They also say people in tornado-prone areas have become desensitized by frequent false alarms and don't always pay attention to the first warnings.

And so, offices in Missouri and Kansas will start sending out "impact-based" warnings during severe weather that describe how much damage a storm could cause.

Sign a petition at for the "responsible" insurance industry to provide crucial information and policyholder rights (yes, they do exist) to all policyholders as a matter of course. Disaster survivors lack these basic rights and vital information in their time of need, when they are most vulnerable. We should all realize hidden jeopardy awaits.

It wasn’t the KoolAid. It was a mass murder and cover-up by the CIA and Jim Jones was just a pawn. Check out way the bodies were lined up evenly in rows. Cyanide poisoning is a horrible death, and the bodies weren’t contorted, as would be the case if they had died from cyanide poisoning. I know the reference to KoolAid has become ingrained in our culture and it’s a figure of speech, but it is based on falsehoods.

you must be an idiot, every thing in the world isn't a CIA or goverment cover up, the nut forced many people to drink the poison and the ones who wouldnt drink it they shot them in the head, men, women and children alike, i have seen the results oc cyanide poisoning and ppl rarely ever are in whagt you describe as contorted remember the nut who had his followers just a few years ago drink the same sort of thing, not one of them were ( contorted ) they were all in their beds covered up looking very peaceful, jim jones was no pawn he was a mass murderer and if you think any diffrent then your as nuts as the ones who drank the koolaid voluntarily

Step away from the Kool-Aid. The wording you quoted from those websites is identical to what KKTV wrote. All you did was add more.

This story has the issue way blow out of proportion, found the source and it has None of the silly text that this article and others contain. I.E. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TORNADO WITH COMPLETE DEVASTATION LIKELY. ... SEEK SHELTER NOW! ... MOBILE HOMES AND OUTBUILDINGS WILL OFFER NO SHELTER FROM THIS TORNADO - ABANDON THEM IMMEDIATELY." COMPLETE DESTRUCTION OF ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOODS IS LIKELY" and "MASS DEVASTATION IS HIGHLY LIKELY MAKING THE AREA UNRECOGNIZABLE TO SURVIVORS." The actual system just explains what the warnings mean and adds a tag to the bottom of Weather Warnings. The added tags read, Tornado damage threat Significant, Tornado Damage Threat Catastrophic, and Tornado Possible. check out Impact based warning pilot project link on the top of the page. or direct link to the video, info is around the 1:50 mark.
