Continuing to track rain/snow showers throughout southeast Colorado this morning as wet, gloomy and cool conditions continue. If you are hitting the roads in the higher elevation (Teller/Fremont/Custer/ Monument) make sure you allow a little extra time as some roads may be a little snow covered. Wet pavement remains everywhere else. We'll see rain/snow showers continue for most of our Monday, clearing out before midnight. Head on over to the "Weather" tab for a full look at the week ahead.
Volunteers turned out in in force to help Manitou Springs dig out after Friday's devastating flood.
Raging water tore through homes and businesses after heavy rain fell over the Waldo Canyon burn scar Friday night, leaving behind a soggy, muddy mess inside numerous structures and on some of Manitou's busiest streets.
Almost as soon as the storm clouds receded, people began showing up to offer assistance. Hundreds of volunteers worked tirelessly Saturday and Sunday to clean up the damage.
The owner of a sign making company runs a side business selling designer clothes on eBay. All of her inventory was in the basement, which is now filled with a few feet of mud. When volunteer Christy Foss learned what had happened, she went to Walmart and bought a powerwasher to help.
"They were washing them in a bucket one piece at a time," Foss said. She told 11 News she wanted to help wash the clothes and get the "business back going."
Though Manitou Springs has a long ways to go. efforts of volunteers like Foss left the community looking better at the end of the weekend. Clean-up efforts continue Monday. Volunteers are asked to check in at 515 Manitou Avenue.
