DENVER (AP) -- The Colorado Division of Emergency Management is warning of extreme fire danger across Colorado as more than a dozen fires broke out across the state.

The Lower North Fork fire in Jefferson County was the largest. One death is being investigated and authorities are trying to determine how many homes might have been destroyed.

Other fires include the Montezuma Fire in Summit County, the Saw Mill Fire in Jefferson County, and the Storm Mountain area in Larimer County.

Officials said there are several other small wildfires and grass fires in Custer County near Wetmore, along with Morgan County, Logan County, and Weld County.

Winds gust ranging from 40 to 50 mph in Pueblo County fueled several fires Monday afternoon, but no one was injured.

While strong wind will be less widespread the next few days, it will still be a bit windy each afternoon through Friday. This will be especially true across El Paso County.

By the weekend, another bout of strong wind will impact all of Colorado. Right now, Sunday looks to be the worst day. Wind gusts over 50 mph will again be possible.
