COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- No flooding has been reported over the Waldo Canyon burn area but more rain is still possible later.
Up to 1 1/2 inches of rain fell in less than an hour on the northern side of the burn area, near Rampart Reservoir, on Monday afternoon. It's not a heavily populated area and is about 5 miles north of Colorado Springs neighborhoods burned in the 29-square-mile fire.
National Weather Service meteorologist Eric Petersen said storms were redeveloping over the region and more rain was possible in the evening and again Tuesday.
Charred hillsides are vulnerable to erosion and flooding during downpours because they have less vegetation to soak up rain, and burned soils can repel water.
