Storms Drench Southern Colorado Tuesday

Updated: Tue 11:27 PM, Jul 20, 2010

Some intense weather moved through southern Colorado Tuesday night. The storm dropped a lot of rain and hail, and caused some problems around town.

A string of storms, big, black and sopping wet, turned roads into rivers. Firefighters pulled two children from vehicles stranded in the high waters near the Citadel Mall.

Horses mingled with emergency responders on I-25 south of Uintah after a horse trailer tangled with a car and slid into the median.

All this happened as inches of hail fell and lightning lit up Richard Brown's roof.

"I saw the flash it was real close It scared me!" Brown said.

About sixty residents of the Winslow Court Retirement Community in Colorado Springs were forced from the first floor of the complex, which flooded in the downpour.

They were a little damp, but unhurt.
