A major winter storm is hitting the nation's midsection, knocking out power and creating a great big mess for holiday travelers.
The worst of the storm is expected to hit the region today and tomorrow, bringing heavy snow, sleet and rain to a large swath of the Plains and the Midwest. A foot or two of snow is possible in some areas.
The National Weather Service issued blizzard warnings early today for Kansas, western North Dakota and northern Minnesota.
Already this morning, nearly 100 scheduled flights from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport have been canceled and dozens more have been delayed.
Yesterday, more than 200 flights at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport were canceled, along with about 60 flights out of Midway.
