Millions of people along the East Coast are bracing for potentially dicey commutes as they return to work on the first week day after a storm dropped record snowfall, interrupted holiday shopping and stranded travelers.
Even as workers return to the job Monday, their children in some cases are being given the day off.
The School District of Philadelphia and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia have canceled classes for 195,000 students to give the city another day to clear roads and sidewalks. Also closed are public schools in Baltimore and Roanoke, Va., among other cities.
The New York City area's three major airports and other Northeast airports that were jammed up this weekend have been working their way back to normal operations.
But Amtrak says long-distance trains to the South and West face substantial delays.
