Flash Floods Cause Traffic Troubles

Heavy rainfall moved through Southern Colorado Sunday afternoon, bringing flash floods. Several intersections in Colorado Springs were closed as a result.

Along with all of the flooding, a lot of debris also filled the road.

Some intersections were completely flooded over, and several people were seen standing in ankle-deep water.

Cars also drove through several inches of flash flood waters.

One of the hardest hit intersections in Colorado Springs was Powers Blvd. and Barnes Rd. on the east side of the city. That intersection was blocked off for a while Sunday afternoon. A few cars there were stuck in the deep water.

"It was like for a good hour straight, hail, rain, wind, lightning, thunder,” said Nick Miller. “It was probably one of the most intense storms I've seen. It looked kind of like a hurricane, you couldn't even see out to Powers or anything."

Miller also told 11 News the restaurant he works at saw flooding from the rain. But, employees were able to clean up the water and debris an hour after the rain began.

The intersection at Powers Blvd. and Barnes Rd. is mostly open. The westbound lanes of Barnes Rd. may still be blocked because of debris in the road.
