4 People Die In Colo. Avalanches This Winter

DENVER (AP) -- Four people have now died of avalanches in Colorado this winter, following three deaths in separate incidents on Sunday.

The deaths include a man who was snowmobiling with his brother near Buffalo Pass in Jackson County. The surviving brother was found Monday near a snow cave where he took shelter.

Two skiers also died in slides on Sunday, including one who was caught in a small avalanche on open terrain at Mary Jane Mountain in the Winter Park Ski Resort.

Avalanches deaths at ski resorts are extremely rare. At least two reported have been since 2005.

The avalanche danger remained high in many of Colorado's mountains on Tuesday. A portion of Interstate 70 on Vail Pass was set to temporarily close for avalanche control work. Significant backups are expected.
