In size, the Elbert County tornado was a big one. However, tornado size doesn't always mean that it is a strong tornado. This tornado at its widest was about a quarter of a mile wide. No doubt, a big tornado anywhere let alone Colorado. However, most of the damage was done by EF-1 and EF-2 winds. On the Enhanced Fujita Scale, that means wind speeds between 110 and 137 mph. Pretty impressive for a Colorado twister. Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities.
