A red pollution advisory is in effect for the seven-county Denver-Boulder metro area.

State health officials say the region's air quality is poor, or will likely deteriorate during the day.

The red advisory triggers mandatory bans on residential burning, and motorists are urged to reduce driving as much as possible.

The advisory will remain in effect until 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Winter air quality advisories will be issued through March 31.
