My son actually spotted a funnel cloud about 1:30pm in that direction. My wife and I looked and did see debris being picked up and a clear absoulte funnel reaching to the clouds. At first we wondered if it was just smoke or a fire. When we stopped the van, we did see clearly that it was a tornado. It was west of Fontaine about only 2 miles away.

Don't wait till a tragedy happens, get the warning system back to running. You can't replace lives.I'm very thankful for Minneapolis to having the warning system, considering all the tornadoes of either sighting or touching down around here.Don't like the loud noise, wear earplugs.

The warning system was not removed because people thought they were an eye sore, they were removed for the same reason everything else is taken away..MONEY, the county did not want to spend the money on the warning system. When sadly someone dies they will relook at the system.

I was at work and I heard nothing of funnel clouds or Tornado Warnings in the area. Nothing came on the radio. I heard it on the news when I got home. We need a better warning system. Whats going to happen when we actually do have a Tornado and there is no warning? We really do need a warning system...

I lived in the security area when it was decided to remove the warning system. They were removed because people in the town considered them to be an eyesore and did not like the loud noise due to periodic tests that would be conducted.

one of the pics above i took off of fontaine and goldfiend in security. this may have been a seperate funnel from what was spotted on the ground. as a weather spotter it was a very eventful day and night. glad to see all the pics and videos.

The County took the warning system away many years ago. They feel we don't need one. So we have to wait for a big tornado to hit like the one east of Denver last month before they do anything. Until then Pray that noone gets killed.

I was baby-sittimg, and we were listening to the radio and the mom called and let me know that the siren went off at Fort Carson, and I was surprised that 98.9 didn't let us know. I was so scared so we went into the basement after the mom let us know she spotted a funnel cloud. So yeah. I just THANK GOD nothing happend. Southern Colorado was blessed!

I am from Iowa and am quite disturbed with the lack of warning of severe weather in the area today. I saw the funnel cloud today in the southern Springs and expected to immediately hear weather bulletins on the radio and tornado sirens. There was none of this. If there is severe weather in the area, why do radio stations not break programming to report it? And further, why are there no tornado sirens in the city? I understand that there is little tornado activity in the area, but if it is a possibility, there should be a warning system in place. It is irresponsible of the city to not provide warning systems. Today, when I saw the funnel cloud the first thing that came to mind was Parkersburg, IA. Half of the town was destroyed by an EF5 tornado earlier this year and several people died. The town did have a warning system and lives were saved because of it. I firmly believe Colorado Springs needs better warning systems for severe weather, so citizens lives' will never be at risk.
