Updated: 05/20/2013 - Two weekends left to catch one great show!
Hot was the main weather word of the day across the western reaches Thursday as temperatures were able to soar to record and near record readings. San Francisco Airport was able to soar to 96 degrees, with triple digit records in Santa Rosa and Napa. Other records around the region were broken by up to 6 degrees, like in Red Bluff, California where a temperature of 104 degrees was reached. Heat will continue across the region Friday, with 90s possible all the way north to Seattle, Washington. More records are set to fall across the region, although slight weakening of offshore flow will allow for a slight cooling across the San Francisco Bay area.
A strong ridge of high pressure is responsible for this west coast warming. As this ridge builds eastward temperatures will warm to unseasonably warm levels in Southern Colorado as soon as Sunday. Daytime highs will run well into the 80's and 90's east of the mountains Sunday through Tuesday. In fact, we'll flirt with record heat early next week. The record highs for Colorado Springs are 86 and 88 degrees for Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Pueblo's records for these two days are 98 and 94 degrees. While It will be tough to touch 98 degrees on Monday, plan for an extended stretch of summer-like heat across all of Southern Colorado.
