SAN DIEGO (AP) -- A lawyer representing family members of the suspect in the Colorado mass shooting says their hearts go out to the victims and their families.
Lisa Damiani met reporters Monday in San Diego.
She's representing the family of 24-year-old James Holmes, who made his first court appearance Monday in a Denver suburb where he's being held without bond.
When asked if James Holmes' family stands by him, Lisa Damiani told reporters Monday in San Diego: "Yes they do. He's their son."
Diamani quoted Holmes' mother, Arlene Holmes, as saying she first heard of the shooting in Aurora, Colo., hours after it occurred, when a reporter for ABC News called her.
Damiani refused to answer questions about Holmes and his relationship to the family.
