Theaters across Colorado Springs have requested the presence of off-duty officers for at least Friday night as a precautionary measure following a deadly mass shooting at an Aurora movie theater.
The Colorado Springs Police Department confirms that arrangements have been made to assist theaters. In fact, two theaters that already use extra security will have their teams doubled.
CSPD says officers will follow up with theaters over the next few days to come up with a formal Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) focused on preventing incidents similar to the Aurora shooting.
Patrol officers throughout the Springs will also be closely monitoring theaters, shopping centers and other areas where people frequently socialize.
