16 E. Platte Ave., Colorado Springs, Co 80903, outdoors on the south side
First Christian Church is presenting another program in their “Hot Summer Nights: Music on the Labyrinth” series, featuring Joe Uveges, singer and acoustic guitarist. His music includes everything from driving rock to country ballads, percussive funk and adult contemporary with a spiritual twist. The program will be held outdoors on the south side of the church (but will move indoors for inclement weather), so bring a blanket or chair. A free will offering will be taken.
Raised a farm kid in Schoharie New York, Joe Uveges has meandered a path of small town minstrel on Colorado's Front Range for more than 22 years. For the last 12 years Joe has played 130+ shows a year from coast to coast, performing and promoting his CDs, two of which wond “Best of” awards in the Pikes Peak region. Joe was fan choice for “Best Solo Musician” in the Pikes Peak region in 2011 and 2012. A consummate veteran of coffee-houses and concerts of every type, Joe weaves a performer's magic in numerous settings with grace and humor, and has written over 900 songs. Joe recently teamed up with Christian singer/songwriter Stephanie Pauline of “More than Music” ministries on a country disc entitled: When the Smoke Clears. The disc was recorded in Nashville and Colorado Springs and features some of country music's finest studio players including Dave Cleveland, Tim Akres (Rascall Flatts), Gary Lund, Mark Web, Jason Web, Steve Brewster, Charlie Hall, and Glenn Duncan (Barbara Mandrell). The disc was released in 2011.
Joe is currently acting music minister at High Plains Church (UU) in Colorado Springs. “Joe Uveges is not only a warm, wise and witty musician, but also a gifted, gritty and grace-filled storyteller and theologian! ‘ART’ by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton
4:00 pm Sunday and 7:30 all other night
Springs Ensemble Theatre, 1903 E. Cache La Poudre, Colorado Springs 80909
Springs Ensemble Theatre (“SET”) continues our fifth anniversary season with Yasmina Reza’s, ‘ART’ a comedy that challenges the conventions of art and the definition of friendship.
Marc is upset because one of his best friends, Serge, has bought a painting. It’s a canvas about five feet by four, white on white with diagonal white lines. Marc thinks the painting is a joke. Serge thinks Marc doesn’t have the training to understand. Their other friend, Yvan, eager to placate both of them, allows Marc and Serge to pull him into the middle of their disagreement. As the play goes on, lines are crossed, loyalties tested, and the trio’s arguments become less theoretical and more personal. Will their friendship survive?
