6:30 pm-8:30 pm
First Christian Church, 16 E. Platte Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903, outdoors on the south side of the building
First Christian Church is presenting the final program on their “Hot Summer Nights: Music on the Labyrinth” series, featuring Dean Phelps, folk singer and guitarist from Oklahoma. He combines Travis-style guitar with a soulful vocal style to perform heart-friendly songs played to a toe-tapping beat. The program will be held outdoors on the south side of the church (but will move indoors for inclement weather), so bring a blanket or chair. A free will offering will be taken.
Originally from Kentucky, Dean Phelps combines award-winning Travis-style guitar with a soulful vocal style and a wide repertoire. The result is heart-friendly songs played to a toe-tapping beat. In 2012 he won the National Thumbpick Guitar Contest in Mountain View, Arkansas, and was the thumbpick guitar champion in the Indiana State Picking and Fiddling Championships in 2012. His music is regularly featured in worship services of DisciplesNetChurch, an online congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He is currently the interim Regional Minister for the Oklahoma Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), living in Edmond, OK.

‘ART’ by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton
4:00 pm Sunday and 7:30 all other night
Springs Ensemble Theatre, 1903 E. Cache La Poudre, Colorado Springs 80909
Springs Ensemble Theatre (“SET”) continues our fifth anniversary season with Yasmina Reza’s, ‘ART’ a comedy that challenges the conventions of art and the definition of friendship.
Marc is upset because one of his best friends, Serge, has bought a painting. It’s a canvas about five feet by four, white on white with diagonal white lines. Marc thinks the painting is a joke. Serge thinks Marc doesn’t have the training to understand. Their other friend, Yvan, eager to placate both of them, allows Marc and Serge to pull him into the middle of their disagreement. As the play goes on, lines are crossed, loyalties tested, and the trio’s arguments become less theoretical and more personal. Will their friendship survive?
