Chief Meteorologist Brian Bledsoe
Wednesday Night, February 22nd

The threat for strong wind will last through late tonight, with the highest wind gusts occurring from near Pueblo West to western CO Springs northward to Denver and westward. Gusts over 70 mph will be possible for those closest to the mountains.

Along and immediately east of I-25, west to northwest winds will run between 25 and 50 mph through tonight, with an occasional gust to 60 mph possible.

A strong cold front will blast through the area late tonight and early Thursday. The warm wind of today will turn into a cold wind for Thursday, with highs only in the 30s and 40s. A few snow showers will also be possible from last morning into the afternoon. Right now, the snow doesn't appear to be a significant threat. However, the heavier showers could produce some very light accumulations over northern El Paso County, and to the south & west of Pueblo.

Friday will be a cool and breezy day, but should be mostly sunny. Highs only in the 40s...

While we are pretty confident that Saturday will be windy and mild, the weather changes start again on Sunday. Another strong cold front moves through and will spell another bout of strong wind...

Severe Weather News - ScienceDaily.com
  • Climate change threatens tropical birds: Global warming, extreme weather aggravate habitat loss, review finds
Climate change spells trouble for many tropical birds -- especially those living in mountains, coastal forests and relatively small areas -- and the damage will be compounded by other threats like habitat loss, disease and competition among species, according to a new review.
  • Time of year important in projections of climate change effects on ecosystems
Based on more than 25 years of data, ecologists looked at how droughts and heat waves affect grass growth during different months of the year.
  • Extreme summer temperatures occur more frequently in U.S. now, analysis shows
Extreme summer temperatures are already occurring more frequently in the United States, and will become normal by mid-century if the world continues on a business as usual schedule of emitting greenhouse gases. By analyzing observations and results obtained from climate models, a new study has shown that previously rare high summertime (June, July and August) temperatures are already occurring more frequently in some regions of the 48 contiguous United States.
  • NASA science aircraft to travel the globe in 2012
With missions scheduled throughout the year, 2012 is shaping up to be an extraordinary time for NASA's Airborne Science Program and Earth system science research. Multiple aircraft and specialized instruments will operate in the United States, Europe, Asia and South America this year in support of studies conducted by NASA and the Earth science community, improving scientists' understanding of our planet.
  • Research yields better seasonal climate forecasts
Arctic sea ice is rapidly retreating. Within a few decades the North Pole could be completely ice-free in summer. How will that affect our weather? In the research project "Seasonal Predictability over the Arctic Region" (SPAR), scientists in Norway have made some discoveries that may lead to more reliable seasonal forecasts.
