JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Executive Producer
REPORTS TO: News Director
DEPARTMENT: News
GENERAL PURPOSE
To oversee content, style and execution of KKTV 11 News on-air and online.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• This position requires strong leadership skills, enthusiasm and a drive for excellence Odd schedules and or long work weeks are sometimes required.
• Coaches reporters and producers in accordance with newsroom strategy set forth by the News Director. This includes coaching and critiquing of reporters’ story construction, writing and on-air performances as well as source and story development. Works with the News Director to establish and uphold producing standards.
• This requires a significant background show producing. Fill-in line producing will be required.
• Previous management experience in a medium to large market is desired.
• Helps guide the editorial direction of the news product, including direct management of all investigative assignments and any assignments that require legal expertise.
• Oversees content and production of all franchise work, including health, consumer, Crime Stoppers and others as assigned to anchor talent.
• Works with each reporter to brainstorm and problem-solve throughout the day and attends the afternoon production meeting to brief line producers on reporter progress.
• Assists the News Director with assigned administrative tasks attends meetings with other departments as needed and works closely with News Director on employee recruitment, evaluations and schedules.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
• Position requires a college degree and at least a 5 year’s experience in one or all of the following areas:
News Manager, Reporter, Anchor, Producer, and Assignment Editor. Appropriate experience may be substituted for educational requirements at employers discretion.
• Newsroom management experiences helpful but not required.
• Knowledge of all news gathering and libel laws required, including thorough knowledge of laws pertaining to investigative news gathering and reporting.
• Ability to edit videotape and fill in on both the assignment desk and as a producer helpful.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
Position requires extended periods of work on a computer and ability to operate and understand many types of electronic news gathering and news production equipment.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Position requires occasional outside work, including possible work in extreme weather conditions.
SALARY:
Commensurate with ability and experience.
