Name: Shannon Brinias
Title: 11 News Anchor
Broadcast Times: 5:30 & 10 p.m.

Shannon Brinias co-anchors KKTV 11 News at 5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. with Don Ward. She’s been a member of the KKTV 11 News Team since 2006. Along with Don and the production team, Shannon has received a number of honors for her work in Southern Colorado, including Colorado Broadcasters’ Association awards for Best Anchor Team and Best Single Program.

Shannon has enthusiastically embraced the many organizations and activities here which make Southern Colorado unique. She has emceed events for groups such as the American Heart Association, United Way, Peak Vista, Silver Key, the Arthritis Foundation, Special Kids Special Families, and many others. Two causes especially close to Shannon’s heart are the March of Dimes and Big Brothers/Big Sisters, where Shannon serves on the board. “I’m just very moved by issues involving our children. My daughter was born prematurely, so that’s why I’m involved in the March of Dimes. And I’ve seen the amazing results of mentoring, which is why I feel Big Brothers/Big Sisters is so important.”

Prior to her joining KKTV 11 News, Shannon worked as an anchor and reporter in Denver and Seattle, as well as a number of other cities in the western part of the U.S. Her first jobs were along the Front Range, in Wyoming and Nebraska. Over the course of her extensive career in television news, she has also worked at TV stations in Reno, Portland, and Spokane.

A four-time Emmy-nominated journalist, Shannon's reports have won several awards, including the Society of Professional Journalists' top honor for "Best Series." Her investigation into why city officials were stonewalling organizers of a state's Law Officers' Memorial paved the way for the memorial wall's creation in Reno, Nevada. She has covered flooding and ice storms in Oregon, volcano activity and earthquakes in Washington, Nevada's wild horses, as well as tornadoes, protests and politics in Colorado.

Shannon feels lucky to be working in her chosen field, a profession she picked back in high school, little imagining the places and people she would visit and meet. "I identify with our viewers, and the issues they're facing. I feel privileged to share important information with them, and know that they trust me to deliver it to them. But also, I just think it's the greatest job in the world. Every day you do and learn something new and different. What other job can give you that?" Shannon says.

In her spare time, Shannon likes to get in some of her favorite activities... skiing, hiking, scrap-booking, golf and tennis, with her husband and daughter. But if it’s her daughter doing the choosing, you can find the family enjoying the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Uncle Wilbur’s fountain or America the Beautiful Park.
