Updated: 05/14/2013 - I'm still focused on meeting my goal of doing a pull-up. And I'm almost there! But I'm always getting this question:
If you’re looking to improve your workout, adding speed, agility and quickness to your training is one way to help make that happen. It also can add variety to your routine. Teaching your body to react quickly can help in many different ways.
By adding exercises that challenge your body to move faster, change direction, and react quicker, you can gain many benefits. By properly progressing through your training, you can begin to add exercises that will put you in situations to improve performance. You can also help in injury prevention by teaching your body to react properly and with quickness. This form of training can also jumpstart your workout to keep you from hitting a plateau.
Through the body’s kinetic chain, movement patterns are learned. The kinetic chain consists of the nervous system, the muscular system, and the skeletal system. These three systems work together to make movement happen. By teaching the body to be in challenging environments, you can improve the ability of the movement. If your body is trained to know how to respond, you have a better chance of avoiding injury.
By training up to the level of speed, agility, and quickness, you can create fun, exciting workouts that take you to the next level. This form of training is challenging and physically demanding. It keeps your heart rate up and burns a good amount of calories. By keeping record of your progress, you can challenge yourself to improve. It is a great way to stay motivated.
An example of Speed, agility, and quickness training is using an agility ladder. It can help in improving coordination while increasing speed, agility, and quickness. There are a variety of exercises that can be performed with the agility ladder. By changing the planes of motion, the direction of the motion, and other variables, your body will increase performance. As you improve, so will your body’s ability in sports and other activities.
