Workout Wednesday - Combination Exercises

Updated: Wed 9:49 AM, Jun 02, 2010

Combination exercises combine exercises for multiple body parts together effectively "killing two birds with one stone." Combination exercises allow you to perform isolation movements while you perform compound movements or simultaneous compound movements. Combination exercises give you an extra circuit training effect because they use so much muscle mass.

Performing combination exercises minimize your time weight training which allows you to better maintain your muscle mass on your hypo caloric diet and spend the time you need to burn the extra calories doing cardio. You will be surprised how much you can accomplish in 30 minutes.

Some examples using the resistance tube are as follows:

Perform a wall sit while putting the tubing cuffs around your wrists and complete reps opening the arms as wide as you can and returning to the start position, maintaining tension on the tubing.

Place cuffs around ankles, keep tension on the band, step right then left as you use dumbbells and execute a bicep curl (or any other upper body movement).

Get in supine position (on your back, face up), put the tubing around both legs just below the knees. As you come up to do a sit up, open your legs (small range of motion), return to starting position without dropping the head all the way to the mat.

Be creative and have fun making up all sorts of exercises with the tubing with cuffs.
