ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos have named The Classical Academy’s David Bervig NFL High School Coach of the Week. Bervig led the Class 3A Titans of the Southern League to a come-from-behind victory over Pueblo East Thursday night, allowing the Titans to maintain their perfect record. After trailing 33-17 in the last six minutes of the game, the Titans rallied to win 37-33.
“It was chaos—crazy,” Bervig said. “But these kids love each other and fought.”
Bervig, 43, was born in Grand Junction and graduated from Alamosa High School in 1987. He earned a history degree Adams Sate College in 1992. Along with being the first-year head coach at The Classical Academy, he is the Vice President of Human Resources for David C. Cook publishing company.
The Denver Broncos will recognize 10 High School Coach of the Week honorees during the regular season. Each weekly winner will receive a $1,000 donation from the NFL Youth Football Fund to be used in the school’s football program. Additionally, during the Broncos’ home game on December 30th, the NFL/Denver Broncos High School Coach of the Year will be named and presented with a $2,000 donation to the school’s football program. This year’s selection committee is led by Neil Devlin of the Denver Post and includes Ring of Fame Member Billy Thompson of the Denver Broncos and Andy Lindahl of KOA.
