Posted: 04/13/2008 - The Denver Nuggets are on the cusp of the NBA playoffs after Allen Iverson and J.R. Smith led a 111-94 win over Houston. Iverson poured in 33 points for the Nuggets, who could wrap up a postseason berth as early as Monday if the Warriors lose to Phoenix. Smith added 23 points, including back-to-back 3-pointers in a 10-0 run that allowed the Nuggets to pull away in the first half.

Deron Williams chipped in 19 points and 11 assists for the Jazz, who took a step toward securing home court advantage in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. Carlos Boozer and Ronnie Brewer each scored 20 points and helped the Jazz take a 40-25 lead into the second quarter.

The senior captain beat out Boston College's Nathan Gerbe and Miami of Ohio's Ryan Jones for hockey's equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. ''This is an amazing honor and a great award,'' Porter said. ''But our main goal here was to come and win a national championship. We're still disappointed about last night.''

Air Force Names Jim Trego Senior Associate Athletic Director

Updated: 04/11/2008 - Baylor associate athletic director Jim Trego has been named senior associate athletic director at Air Force. Trego replaces Michael Saks, who left in October to join the Orange Bowl committee. Trego will oversee external affairs in the athletics department, including marketing and development, promotions, ticketing, gift shop operations and athletic communications. He will be the primary administrator for revenue sports.

Nuggets Sign Bobby Jones

Posted: 04/11/2008 - Swingman Bobby Jones has signed with the Denver Nuggets for the remainder of the season. Jones averaged 3.8 points and 1.9 rebounds in 45 games with five different teams this season, including 23 games for the Nuggets, who waived him January 7th. Jones then signed 10-day contracts with Memphis, Houston, Miami and San Antonio.
