Gold, a ninth-year player, spent seven seasons with the Broncos (2000-03, ’05-07) and appeared in 99 games (67 starts) with the club, totaling 542 tackles (426 solo) and 16.5 sacks. He played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the 2004 season.

The Avalanche announced today they acquired Foote from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a conditional first-round draft choice in 2008 or 2009 and a conditional fourth-round choice in 2009. Yesterday, Colorado agreed to terms on a deal that brings Forsberg back to Denver for the rest of the current season.

In return, the Avs give up the rights to Karlis Skrastins and give Florida a third-round pick in this year's draft. The deal was announced Tuesday, a day after Colorado agreed to terms on a deal that brings former MVP Peter Forsberg back to Denver for the rest of the current season.

Perez could earn 1 million dollars if he makes the 40-man roster and earns significant playing time, but the odds of that are slim because the organization is loaded with young, talented infielders. The Rockies already have two candidates in Clint Barmes and Omar Quintanilla to replace Jamey Carroll as their utility infielder.

Manager Clint Hurdle broke from tradition Monday and made the announcement much earlier than usual. Hurdle says Francis earned the opportunity by going 17-9 with a 4.22 ERA last year.

Forsberg played nine seasons with Avalanche and helped the team win two Stanley Cups. He won the Hart Trophy and appeared in seven All Star games.
