The left-hander, who tied the franchise record with 17 wins last year, walked three St. Louis Cardinals in a four-run first inning. Francis also gave up a home run to Albert Pujols in the second. But his record was wiped clean when the game was postponed by rain Monday with the Cardinals leading 5-1 in the third inning.

That's the Suns' 50th victory of the season. In reaching at least 50 wins for the fourth straight season, the Suns tied the idle Los Angeles Lakers for first place in the Pacific Division.

The NBA announced the award today for games that Anthony played in a seven-day span through Sunday. Anthony averaged almost 27 points per game in three games against the Dallas Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors.

The game will be played on Monday night, Sept. 8, in Oakland at 8:15 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN. It will be the fourth consecutive year that the Broncos will begin their regular season on the road.

The Nuggets will be going for a sixth straight win as they hit the road to open a home-and-home series with the Phoenix Suns tonight. Denver had been sitting in ninth place in the West behind Golden State since the end of February. But the Nuggets defeated Golden State on Saturday, and Golden State defeated Dallas last night.

The game features two of the league's best hitters in Albert Pujols of the Cardinals and the Rockies' Matt Holliday. Cardinals opening-day starter Adam Wainwright says he's confident he can get Holliday out if he makes his pitches.

Yesterday the club signed left-handed reliever Micah Bowie and outfielder Scott Podsednik to major league contracts. They placed right-handed pitcher Jason Hirsh on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder. Hirsh was expected to be the Rockies' Number-4 pitcher but hasn't pitched since March 1st, when he strained his rotator cuff.

The Golden-based brewery said Monday it's signed a 10-year sponsorship agreement with the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball. Financial terms of the pact weren't disclosed.

The game-winner was Gaborik's career-high 40th goal and his franchise-record 80th point. Detroit beat Nashville minutes before Minnesota took the ice. That sent the Wild to its second straight playoff berth.

Justin Mercier scored 15:21 into OT to lift top-seeded Miami of Ohio to a 3-2 win over Air Force in the NCAA Division I Northeast Regional semifinals today. Mercier collected a loose puck near center ice, cut around an Air Force defenseman and fired a shot under the crossbar past Falcons goaltender Andrew Volkening.

Tim Kennedy and Jeff Dunne scored on power plays for the defending national champion Spartans. Chris Mueller added a goal with seven seconds remaining in the second.
