CANYON, Texas - CSU-Pueblo won its third tournament of the season, led by the first career tournament win by junior Julie Sanchez (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.), at the West Texas A&M Lady Buff Stampede in Canyon, Texas.
Sanchez paced the field by shooting a first-round 2-over-par 74 followed by a second round 4-over-par 76 to finish the tournament with a 6-over-par 150 to claim her first career title. With the win, Sanchez becomes the fourth current ThunderWolf to have won an individual tournament title, joining teammates Leina Kim (So., Saipan, CNMI), Michaela Breit (Sr., Greeley, Colo.), and Domi Dinallo (Sr., Elephant Butte, N.M.).
Sanchez finished two shots ahead of Kim, who finished second in the tournament with a 8-over-par 152. Four ThunderWolves finished in the top-35 in the 88-member field.
With the victory, CSU-Pueblo has now won five of its past seven tournaments dating back to last season. This year, CSU-Pueblo has one three of four tournaments.
