ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week, the National Football League announced on Wednesday.
Miller totaled six tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles in Denver’s 30-23 win over the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. His three sacks tied a career high and his two forced fumbles represented a personal best.
The second-year player, who leads the NFL with 23 tackles for a loss in 2012, owns career 24.5 sacks, trailing only Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Thomas for the most sacks through a player’s first 25 games (since 1982).
The award marks the second career AFC Defensive Player of the Week honor for Miller (Week 11, 2011) and the third such accolade for a Broncos player this season (CB Tracy Porter, Week 1; LB Wesley Woodyard, Week 8).
