COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The Colorado Springs Sky Sox have announced today that former Major League third baseman Vinny Castilla has been added to the lineup of former Major League players who will be on hand for the Heroes Classic being played this Saturday, June 22 at Security Service Field. The former Rockies and Sky Sox infielder joins Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers and World Series Champions Dave Henderson and Mike Timlin in the celebrity softball game that will benefit victims of the Black Forest Fire and recognize our local heroes.

Castilla played in the Major Leagues for 16 seasons with the Rockies, Braves, Rays, Padres, Nationals and Astros with the majority of those years spent in Colorado (nine). He was a two-time All-Star and in 1,854 games he hit .276 (1,884-for-6,822) with 320 homers, 349 doubles, 902 runs scored and 1,105 RBI. The Oaxaca, Mexico native was a member of the Rockies inaugural season in 1993 and finished his career as the all-time leader among Mexican-born players in home runs, hits, runs, RBI and doubles. Castilla played for the Sky Sox in 1994 and in 2006 and hit a combined .284 (31-for-109) with a homer, nine doubles, 19 runs scored and 15 RBI in 30 games.

The game will be held at Security Service Field on Saturday, June 22 at 7:05 PM and will salute the brave men and women of the Colorado Springs and El Paso County Fire and Safety Departments who willingly fight everyday to keep our community safe and secure.

The night will culminate with a tremendous fireworks display following the game.

Tickets for the event come in two different options and can be purchased online at, in person at the Sky Sox box office or by calling (719) 591-SOXX. Five dollars from each ticket purchased will be donated to the Pikes Peak Community Foundation to help victims of the Black Forest Fire.

o A general admission ticket to the game.
o Access to a special VIP autograph session before the game with the former Major League players, including Rollie Fingers, Vinny Castilla, Dave Henderson, Mike Timlin and Jim Tracy.
o Membership in the MLBPAA
· Regular general admission tickets to the game will be $10.
