UCCS tops CSU-Pueblo in women's volleyball

PUEBLO, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women’s volleyball team beats Colorado State University Pueblo 3-1 (24-26, 25-22, 25-23, 26-24) on Saturday night. With the win, the Mountain Lions improve to 13-6 overall and 8-3 in the RMAC.

UCCS was led in the first set by Freshman Amanda Bloom who had four of nine kills for the match. Bloom hit .500 and also had two block assists in the set. The Thunderwolves would go on to win the first set 24-26.

The Mountain Lions would respond in the second set with a 25-22 win. The offense for UCCS was led by Senior outside hitter Lindsy Heisler, who had three of her five kills for the match.

UCCS carried the momentum into the third set as they would win 25-23. Freshman Jordan Banich recorded six kills, three digs, one assist, and one block assist in the set. Banich finished the match with a game-high 13 kills, and added nine digs, with four block assists.

With a 2-1 advantage, the Mountain Lions gained firm control of the match, and led in the fourth set by as many as six points. Yet the Thunderwolves would rally and UCCS found themselves down 20-23, before going on a 6-1 run to win the fourth set 26-24, and close out the match 3-1.

Freshman Kim Catlett led the Mountain Lions in the fourth set recording five kills on 14 team attacks, with two digs and the only solo block for the team. Catlett finished the match with 11 kills, 11 digs, one solo block, one block assist, and one assist.

Senior Lindsey Stich, and freshman Grace Gordan Collaborated on 46 assists to set up the Mountain Lions offense all game. Stich finished with 21 assists, five digs, one kill, and the only service ace for UCCS. Gordon recorded a career-best and game-high of 25 assists, adding 13 digs.

Redshirt freshman Katie Maguire also had a career-best and game-high as she finishes the match with 29 digs, while adding five assists.

Middle blocker Nikki Kinzer inches closer to No. 1 all-time in block assists in school history as she records a game-high eight block assists in the match. Kinzer needs just 20 more block assists to become No. 1 in UCCS history. Kinzer also had seven kills and five digs in the match.
