COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs sophomore guard Derrick White earned RMAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the third time this season after he led the Mountain Lions to a 2-0 road record last weekend. He is the first men’s basketball student-athlete in the conference to earn the offensive award three times this season.
White averaged 28 points last weekend at Chadron State and Black Hills State and recorded his fourth 30-point game of the season against the Yellow Jackets. He broke the UCCS career and season records for free throws made, and tied the single-game record, with 21 made free throws against Black Hills State on Saturday. He moved into seventh in UCCS career scoring records and has 917 points in less than two full seasons.
White is leading the RMAC with 21.7 points per game and is seventh in NCAA Division II with 181 made free throws this season. He is part of a team that has won 18 games this season and is on a nine-game winning streak, both program records. UCCS will host a first round game in the RMAC Shootout for the first time in program history on March 4.
White and the rest of the Mountain Lions will close out the 2013-14 regular season this weekend with Regis on Friday and No. 1 Metro State on Saturday. Both games tip off at 7:30 p.m., at the Gallogly Events Center.
