DOVER, Del. (May 30, 2014) -- Martin Truex Jr. will start 16th in Sunday's FedEx 400 Sprint Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway.
The Furniture Row Racing driver came close Friday afternoon to making the 12-car, second round of qualifying at the all-concrete Monster Mile. His No. 78 Furniture Row/Denver Mattress Chevrolet missed advancing to the top-12 by just over 100th-of-a-second.
"We got tight and didn't have enough front-end grip," said Truex, who won his first career Cup race at Dover in 2007. "We were better than we were in practice today (26th) and that's a good sign. We need to nail down a strong combination during tomorrow's two practice sessions to get ready for Sunday's race."
Truex's best time and speed during qualifying was 22.107 seconds at 162.844 miles per hour.
The pole winner was Brad Keselowski (21.892 at 164.444). Rounding out the top-10 in order were: Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Larson, Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Brian Vickers and Clint Bowyer.
Sunday's 400-lap, 400-mile race will be televised on FOX, beginning with a 30-minute prerace show at 10:30 a.m. MT (12:30 p.m. ET).
