Colorado Springs, January 28---------- Three-time Pikes Peak Open Division champion Dave Carapetyan (Austin, Texas), will be back on Pikes Peak this summer after missing the nation’s second-oldest motor sports race in 2011.
The 25-year-old Rally Ready driver won the rugged Pikes Peak Open field in 2008, 2009, and 2010, but complications kept him out of the event last year when Romain Dumas set a new division record of 9:46.181.
Carapetyan is switching to the high-profile Unlimited Division this summer, driving a 2013 four-wheel drive Rally Ready PP9 with a Mitsubishi engine to tackle the now fully-paved 12.42 mike course on Pikes Peak.
He’ll be in an Unlimited division that now has 15 entries for the June 30 race, and it includes the likes of Rhys Millen, who set the all-time mark last year in winning the Time Attack division with a blistering 9:46.164 clocking and also moving up to Unlimited, second place finisher Cody Loveland, 2011 third-place winner Jean Philippe Dayraut (France), and veterans including Kris Antal (Hungary), Britain’s rally vet Mark Rennison, 2012 Exhibition Powersport champion Doug Siddens, and Colorado Springs veteran Jimmy Keeney.
