The Colorado Springs Sky Sox (64-59) led for six innings against the Round Rock Express (56-67), which was a situation the Sox had the sealed won in 52 of 53 chances entering the night, but allowed seven runs in the final three innings including an Express rally in the ninth of a tie ballgame to drop the series finale and lose their second consecutive series at Security Service Field.

Entering the ninth inning tied 6-6 the Sky Sox had won six of eight games this season when tied after the eighth inning of play, but Round Rock put up five unearned runs in the final frame. The Express scored the first run of the inning on a single by first baseman Brad Nelson, then scored four runs on three straight RBI hits with two outs in an inning that included a Sky Sox throwing error. Round Rock scored eight runs in the final four innings of the game while the Sox were held scoreless to seal the series loss.

The Sky Sox jumped out to an early lead for the second game in a row as outfielder Charlie Blackmon doubled in two runs in the first and infielder Brendan Harris added another run on a sacrifice fly. Blackmon added another RBI on his second double of the game which gave the Sox a 4-0 lead after the third inning. Blackmon leads the team with 21 extra-base hits since returning to the Sky Sox on July 4, and leads active Sox players with 29 RBI in that same time span.

After the third inning the Express scored at least a run in four straight innings, including a two-run shot by Round Rock outfielder Leonys Martin in the seventh inning to tie the game at 6-6. Martin homered in three straight games to end the series against the Sox, after coming in to the series with six homers in 38 games with the Express, and totaled seven RBI in those final three games. The 2-through-4 hitters for Round Rock combined to go 6-for-13 with six RBI and six runs scored.

The Sky Sox held a 6-4 lead after the sixth inning, and with the blown lead it is only the second time this season Colorado Springs has lost when leading after six innings in the books. The Sky Sox still have the fewest losses in the league in that situation, and the only other occurrence was on May 4 at Security Service Field against the Fresno Grizzlies.

With the loss the Sky Sox have now matched their longest home losing streak of the season at three games. Colorado Springs now welcomes the American Southern Division-leading Albuquerque Isotopes, top affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, to Security Service Field for a four-game set. In the first game of the series the Sky Sox will send out right-hander Rob Scahill (9-11, 5.85 ERA) to face off with Isotopes lefty Derrick Loop (10-3, 4.14 ERA) with the action kicking off at 6:05 p.m. MT.
