SDSU Beats Air Force Women

USAFA, Colo. - Hampered by a 21-2 San Diego State run in the opening half, the Air Force women's basketball team dropped a 73-55 decision to the league-leading Aztecs Wednesday evening in Clune Arena.

A pair of seniors led the way for Air Force in the team's final home game of the season, with Alicia Leipprandt (Ubly, Mich.) tallying 18 points while team captain Katie Hilbig (Castle Rock, Colo.) notched her second double-double of the year, finishing with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Meanwhile, Chairese Culberson led three Aztecs in double figures scoring, recording 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

After San Diego State (23-5, 14-1) scored the first six points of the contest, Air Force put together its own scoring spurt, taking a 9-8 lead just over six minutes into the game. However, the Aztecs went on their huge run, outscoring the Falcons 21-2 over the next eight minutes. Shooting nearly 57 percent in the opening half, San Diego State went into the locker room with a 41-20 advantage.

While the Aztecs increased the margin to 27 points early in the final stanza, the Falcons battled back, outshooting and outscoring San Diego State in the second period.

Air Force (4-24, 3-12) shot just 32.8 percent for the game, but was able to convert on 15-of-18 free throws. Meanwhile, San Diego State, which clinched the regular season Mountain West title, scored 21 points off the Falcons' 19 turnovers.

The Falcons wrap up the regular season this Saturday, March 9, when they visit New Mexico in a 2:00 p.m. contest.
