Ross Jr., Express Take Down Sky Sox, 8-2

Despite scoring first, the Sky Sox (45-63) dropped Sunday’s matinee to the Round Rock Express (55-52), 8-2, at Security Service Field.

The Express got seven strong innings from LHP Robbie Ross Jr. (3-3), who allowed just two runs on a Jackson Williams two-run single in the second inning. He scattered seven hits and struck out two. RHP Matt West came in relief to throw two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit with one strikeout. The Express allowed just three baserunners after the second inning.

As well as his two RBI, Williams was the lone Sky Sox to collect two hits in the game.

Round Rock was led by Josh Wilson’s three hits and three RBI. He reached base all four times to the dish. CF Ryan Strausborger also collected two hits and two RBI, while scoring three times.

Matt McBride, who had an RBI in six straight games coming into Sunday, collected a hit in his ninth straight game, though he was unable to drive in a run.

R.J. Seidel made his Sky Sox debut and pitched a scoreless outing. In 1.1 innings, he allowed just one hit with one strikeout.

LHP Brian Burres (1-5) got the starting nod for the Sky Sox, and gave up four runs on five hits in five innings of work.

The Sky Sox and Express will play in the series finale at 7:05 p.m. (MT) Monday, when RHP Mike McClendon (2-2, 4.04 ERA) squares off against RHP Lisalverto Bonilla.
