Rockies top the Royals in Cactus League play

The Colorado Rockies (13-12-4) bested the Kansas City Royals (11-13-2) today at Salt River Fields, 8-2, behind 10 hits…the Royals got a run in the second but Troy evened the score in the bottom half of the inning when he hit his third home run of spring on a 2-1 pitch…later in the inning, Charlie Culberson knocked a two-out, two-run single…Colorado stretched their lead to 4-1 in the third when Justin Morneau contributed with a run-scoring double…Kansas City tacked on a run in the sixth…Tulowitzki added a sacrifice fly for the Rox in the seventh…Ryan Wheeler cemented the score line with his home run in the eighth, his second of Cactus League play…Franklin Morales picked up his third win pitching five innings allowing one run (unearned) on three hits and striking out seven…Tommy Kahnle (2.0 ip) and Rex Brothers (1.0 ip) each had scoreless appearances in preserving the win.

The Rockies head to Glendale tomorrow and will take on the Chicago White Sox with the first pitch scheduled for 2:05 p.m. MDT.
