The Colorado Rockies defeated the San Diego Padres today, 6-3, at Peoria Stadium behind right-hander Tyler Chatwood’s three innings of work. He gave up two runs on five hits while throwing 48 total pitches, 31 for strikes. San Diego took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning but the Rockies evened it up in the top half of the second. Troy Tulowitzki led off the frame with a walk, advanced to second on a single and moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt from Charlie Blackmon. Tulo scored when Jordan Pacheco hit a fielder’s choice to shortstop. The Padres regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning but Colorado’s first three hitters of the fourth inning would get on base and eventual score putting them ahead. Wilin Rosario began the inning with a double down the right field line and would score on a Pacheco double to center field. The second batter of the inning, Blackmon who reached on a walk, moved to third on Pacheco’s double. Blackmon and Pacheco would both score on Chris Nelson’s single to center, his first RBIs this spring. The Friars would cut the Rockies lead to 4-3 in the fifth inning but Josh Outman, Miguel Batista, Rafael Betancourt and Josh Sullivan held the Padres scoreless the rest of the game each throwing an inning. The Rockies would add two more runs in the ninth inning making the final score 6-3. Betancourt’s appearance in the eighth inning marked his spring debut as he allowed one hit and struck out one in his inning of work. Colorado returns home tomorrow to take on the Cincinnati Reds with RHP Juan Nicasio scheduled to toe the rubber opposite LHP Aroldis Chapman
